Pair a Ledger and sign without exposing your seed.

The desktop wallet builds the transaction. Your Ledger signs it. Keys stay on the device — even if the host computer is compromised.

Connect Ledger to Electrum RVN.

  1. 01

Install the Ravencoin app on Ledger Live

Open Ledger Live, search the Manager for the Ravencoin app, and install it on the connected device.
  2. 02

    Unlock and open the app

Enter your Ledger PIN and open the Ravencoin app on the device before launching the desktop wallet.
  3. 03

    Create a hardware wallet

In Electrum RVN, choose 'New wallet → Hardware wallet → Ledger' and accept the derivation path the device suggests.
  4. 04

    Sign a test transaction

Send a small amount to yourself first. The device screen will show the destination address — confirm there, not on the computer.

How Ledger and Electrum RVN actually work together.

Ledger is the signer, Electrum RVN is the wallet. The device holds the private keys and approves every transaction on its own screen; the desktop application handles addresses, balances, asset metadata, and the unsigned transaction the device is asked to sign.

Yes — Ledger supports Ravencoin through a dedicated Ravencoin app you install once from Ledger Live's Manager. Once the app is on the device, any Ravencoin-aware desktop wallet can drive it.

Ledger Live itself does not display RVN balances or RVN assets, which trips up a lot of new owners. That is by design: Ledger Live focuses on a curated set of chains, and Ravencoin is handled through an external wallet that knows the RVN protocol. Electrum RVN fills that role — install the Ravencoin app from Ledger Live, then move to the desktop wallet for day-to-day use.

Which Ledger models work with Ravencoin?

The Ravencoin app runs on Nano S, Nano S Plus, and Nano X. The workflow is identical across the three — the difference is storage capacity (the original Nano S can only hold a handful of apps at a time, while the Plus and X comfortably hold many) and connectivity (Nano X also speaks Bluetooth to a phone, which does not matter for the desktop-wallet pairing).

  • Nano S — works; juggle apps if you also hold other chains.
  • Nano S Plus — recommended; plenty of room for multiple chain apps.
  • Nano X — works; Bluetooth is unused in the desktop flow.
  • Stax / Flex — supported as Ledger ships the Ravencoin app for them.

RVN assets — issuances, transfers, reissues, sub-assets — use standard Ravencoin transactions, which means the Ledger Ravencoin app can sign them. The desktop wallet builds the transaction with the right asset metadata, the device shows the outputs and amounts, and you approve on the hardware screen before anything is broadcast. Asset transfers feel exactly like RVN transfers from the signer's point of view.

Open Ledger Live, plug in the device, unlock with your PIN, and open the Manager. Search for "Ravencoin" and click Install — the app downloads to the device in a few seconds. From that point on, Ledger Live's job is done; you can quit it. Launch Electrum RVN, choose New wallet → Hardware wallet → Ledger, and the desktop wallet will detect the device with the Ravencoin app open.

If you lose or damage the device

The 24-word seed phrase Ledger generated during initial setup is the only thing that matters. Restore it onto a replacement Ledger using the device's "Restore from recovery phrase" flow, install the Ravencoin app again, and pair the new device with Electrum RVN — every address, balance, and asset is back. If you also want the wallet running immediately while the replacement is in transit, you can install Electrum RVN and restore the same 24 words as a software wallet to spend from temporarily; rotate to a fresh seed on the new hardware once it arrives.
